The Digger Foundation has just sold one of its demining machines to the Youth Red Cross of Lower Austria. This organization has organized a fundraising campaign in schools across the region in order to fund a demining machine DIGGER D-3 to the Government of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The capabilities of this machine have been proven in Croatia this spring, during a demonstration with many other machines. It has also been accredited by the Croatian authorities, with scores above the average for what regards the demining quality.
The machine was chosen for its outstanding technical qualities and Digger Foundation's international experience. The DIGGER D-3 was handed over to representatives of Bosnia-Herzegovina by the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michael Spindelegger, on June 24th in Vienna. More than 400 children and the direction of the Austrian Red Cross were gathered at the ministry, in the presence of the machine. The Minister spoke to the young people involved in the project: ``With the exemplary humanitarian commitment of students in the region of Lower Austria, today we can offer together a mine clearance machine to Bosnia-Herzegovina. You contribute concretely to save lives.`` He thanked them for their idea and their generous donations. The representative of the Government of Bosnia-Herzegovina has also thanked the Minister, the students, the Red Cross and the Digger Foundation for the handover of this machine, which will help clear the numerous minefields still present in his country. Staff and volunteers of the Digger Foundation are proud to have contributed to this beautiful project, and look forward to seeing the work done by the machine in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The production of a new D-3 machine has been launched, in order to meet future needs of many highly interested potential customers. |
